replacing fuel pressure regulator, OBD code 172 S70 1998

When the FPR dies, you will have trouble starting the car - excessively long cranking - followed by a puff of black smoke out the exhaust. There will not be a CEL associated the the FPR.

The p0172 code is a vacuum problem.
