whistle in the A/C sysytem V70-XC70

My 2000 V70 has slowly developed that periodic whistling sound that I see many other owners talking about for their Volvos.

There seems to be lots of theories out there from low R134A to the evaporator to the expansion valve etc. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? My kids say it sounds like the whistle in a toy cho-cho train.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm on a budget but I would like to fix it if it's within range.

Thanks,

RGW

evaporator was replaced 3 years ago. I hear a high pitched whistling sound, seems to be coming from the dash area. The whistling sound cycles on and off about every 45 seconds on a hot day. I also hear a distinct click just before the whistling starts. I am wondering if the noise is coming from the expansion valve
