Ball Joint Replacement on Early Model...questions 850 1994

I have a 1994 850 with the old style of ball joint that bolts on to the control arm with 3 bolts. I am wondering if I can replace the whole control arm that has the new style of ball joint used in the later 94s and on. The complete control arm is about the same price as the ball joint.

When replacing the ball joint, does the part that bolts into the steering knuckle come out easily or do you have to beat it out?
