Tune up! 850 1997

I will tell everyone now that it is NOT good to go 40k+ miles with out a tune up. Ouch!

When I pulled the valve cover off to replace the spark plugs the head was covered in oil...I'm assuming this is not normal Any idea what this is coming from?

Also when I pulled the wires out of the head on what I believe are the 3rd and 4th cylinders (position self at front bumper center and one to the left)was an yellowish residue. Normal?
