Sunroof issues 850 1997

Too bad I won't have time to stop by next Sunday on my way to the Springs.

Short of taking the SR off and oiling everything in sight, reach up and pull down the wind deflector before you push the switch to make the SR slide back. The SR needs to "drop" in the rear before it can slide backwards, and if the hinges are corroded in the front, there will be too much resistance and the motor will not budge.

You could also apply light pressure downward near the back of the SR to try to get it to move. I, would just take the SR off and grease/oil every hinge and clean out any sand that happens to get in there. It is easy enough to do. Just be careful not to retract the roof hinges under the roof because they may get stuck! Been there, done that.
