Place a trip computer in car without one? S70 1998

It makes no sense to me either. If you selected the trip computer as an option when you bought the car, it was only about $100 more on the invoice. I would certainly pay that much for this feature, but the $300 quote I got from the dealer to add it to the car now was too much.
