Moonroof sunroof jammed with wire spring

My 1996 850 Wagon just jammed up the sunroof or moonroof whatever it's called about 3 inches from the closed position. Appeared as though a strange wire 0.060 inch diameter about 3 to 4 inches long, bent a little about a 1/4" from each end was in the passenger side greased track and preventing further movement. I have removed the offending object and the sunroof operates acceptably but I am curious if anyone knows what the part is and where it is supposed to be.
