A/C problem S70

in my 98 volvo s70 the air conditioning is not working. the compressor kicks on if I jump the wire. I have jumped the low presure switch and also checked the relay. when I unplug the high side and then plug it back in rapidly then the compressor will kick on but only for about a second if I stop then the compressor stops. what could be the issue?

any help would be much appreciated.
