R-value 850 1996

So, the other day, I spots me a '96 850R wagon, auto. Pretty clean and only 88K on it. I've always kinda wanted an R or a T5 or something in the 850 line that goes like stink.

Anyway, the local Volvo mechanic says they want too much for it. Asking price is $8800 which does seem a little steep. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of fair market on the mid-ninetys R wagons. I've never paid more than $3000 for a car and have bought plenty of driveable sub-$1000 cars. This thing might be a little out of my leauge.
