hard 'clunk' from park into reverse when hot....855R 850

my '97 855R has about 150k mi.. when the car is cold, the auto trans shifts pretty smoothly.. but when the car is hot, the shifts are more hard, and when i shift out of park into reverse there is a noticible "clunk" when its hot.. any ideas?

im going to change the ATF (flush and fill) and see if that helps.. any reccomendations to an ATF additive, should i run synthetic ATF or is regular dextron ok? how do i change the ATF, just open that big drain plug under the tranny and drain it out and refill with new fluid? any idea would be helpful..
thanks
chris
