radio quirk: static at low end of AM band 850 1996

My '96 855 has a frustrating quirk. One of my character flaws is that I like to listen to sports talk radio when I drive. The station in the Phila. area is 610. And down there at that end of AM, on this car there's quite a lot of static noise which correlates with rpm. It's got new plugs, cap, rotor, and ignition cables, so I don't think that it's an ignition issue. Alternator? Or should I be tracking down a bad ground on the radio itself?

I know, I know, I should just turn off the jock radio, but...

Rob
