shift lock sticking on 2002 S40 S40-V40 2002

Shift lock is sticking pretty regularly and have to use the button to release - or keep pumping the brake pedal. I know this may be caused by brake light switch, but is there still a 850 style micros switch in the console on this model that could be the culprit?
