s70 compressor/air conditioner probs S70

Hi all

Im a new member to this site, but i have been reading it pretty often. basically my problem is this-its alittle long but i wanted to describe it as best as i could, so please bear with me.I bought a 1998 s70 with around 65000 miles on it.the ac was running fine with no blower problems. yesterday i tried starting the ac and the air just wouldnt get cold. i opened the hood and looked at the compressor and noticed that the clutch was cycling on and off every few seconds. this was happening with the fan speed set to auto, the temperature to the coldest and the blower options(ie defog, floor vents, driver vents etc...)also set to auto. I located the a/c relay and removed it and the clutch stopped engaging altogether. when i put it back the same cycle resumed( starting and stopping every few seconds) The air seems to be blowing fine but it doesnt get cold. Now here is the kicker- I though maybe the freon was low so i added some stop leak and some freon to the nozzle right next to the passenger side headlamp( i was pretty sure that was the right one) the pressure valve on the freon can was confusing but it seemed that i had filled it to the "warning" level- i dont really know if it was enough but i didint want to overdue it. With the pressure gauge still attached i turned on the A/c
and the compressor started doing its thing again. every time the clutch activated, the pressure would drop and then when it shut off the pressure would increase. I dont know if thats normal but it seemed that it was doing s/t bec when i felt one of the ac hoses/pipes going into the firewall it was ice cold, while the one right next to it felt just as warm as ever.( when standing in front of the car facing the engine, it was the lefthand ac hose/pipe) the air still refused to get cold, so i am wondering if mayb the evaporater is clogged? or there still isnt enough freon? but then how do i kno how much to add? mayb i used the wrong port to add?

If anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it, seeing as im not to interested in not having an ac, and am even less interested in a hefty repair bill for s/t i may b able to do myself!!
thank you all
Mike
