Replace fuel filter 850 1996

Hi I'm having trouble replacing my fuel filter. I was able to disconnect the fuel line from the old filter going to the engine. On the other hand I'm having a terrible time disconnecting the fuel line side to the gas tank. First I moved the connector all the way back. Then I get about half way and can freely twist the filter. Gas comes out through the line and the metal piece of the filter. I just can't get it out any further. Please any help would be appreciated.
