key fobs - keyless remotes 850

Searches didn't lead to a conclusive answer as to why the two key fob "clickers" I just acquired won't seem to program the receiver in my 850. So here I am.

I have one that works -came with the car. Known good battery in at least one of the new ones. I've done the ignition on-off five times bit, but no LED blinkee and no lockee.

Now I come to the part that no other post really covered. The "new" fobs are from a '94 model car and have a model/FCC ID# CWT5653T while the original from '95 is a CWTTFWB1G. Am I right to assume that the older fobs simply will not communicate with my car's receiver? I find this hard to believe since so many people seem to get these things working without any mention of a particular year/model number.

The best part is that I don't even need another remote, let alone two. But my interest is piqued. Any solid info to put this question to rest for myself and others who search the almighty Brickboard would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Will
