HELP--trigger on shift knob broke--can I bypass 'shift lock'? S80 2005

Hi All,

Just got home from work and my bride told me the "trigger" on the front of our S80's shift knob broke and a small metal rod fell out.

I have tried to shift the car out of park, but no go. Is it possible to bypass the shift lock? Or is there an even greater problem--that the metal rod connects to a verticle rod (like in the old 240s) that allows the lever through the "gate"?

I took a look on line, and it looks like the knob just pulls straight up--any chance I can epoxy this back together until I can get a new knob? Or maybe 2?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!
