Volvospeed has a good section on replacement. I followed that plus another manual to do a 94 turbo. I did run into a strange piece of metal piping on top of the head which I removed as Volvo discontinued this. In its place I used hose and it has worked perfectly since. In my case I have taken the intake manifold to my local machine shop and had it vated or cleaned so it was pristine upon reassembly. Granted, I am a little nuts. I did use a Volvo intake gasket as I don't like the fcp gasket. You will need some U joint extensions or flex extensions. The dipstick is a bear to get to, but patience helps.
