850 Engine leaking oil 850

I replaced the engine in my 1996 850, the replacement engine was from a 1997 850. I replaced the rear engine seal when I put the new engine in. Today I notice the car was leaking oil, more like pumping it when the car was running. It seams to me comeing from between the transmission and engine. I am thinking that for some reason the new rear engine seal has failed. Is there a difference between the 96 and 97 rear engine seals? Also before I pull this engine back out, is there any other place that the oil could be coming from? The oil stops runing out when the engine is turned off. Thanks
