Replacement for my 850 - need advice 850

The 2000 S70 will have the ETM issue. The S60 is a little cramped for rear leg room. BUT, the V70 for 2003 and 2004 are in your price range - depending on milage. Same engine layout as the 850, same tools needed. No problem with evaporator. And, so long as you don't get AWD, great gas milage. Just shop around for a good example, and find one that has the shelf over the cargo area.

Or, you could buy my daughter's great running 1995 854T, with a leaking evap :)
