how many @#$% does it take to change a light bulb ? 850 1997

or:

850 Wagon...hi-mount 3rd brake light cover, removal ?

I need to put a new bulb in the high-mount center brake light. The owner's manual says to push on the sides of the cover, then slide it out/down. But it won't budge. It's 35 degrees out, the plastic cold and brittle and I don't want to buy another replacement cover for $22 (hey, the current one is just 3 years old).

Any suggestions, please let me know before my wife and kids get rear ended in this marvel of northern European engineering.

Thanks.
