Drive Shaft: what would cause the DRive Shaft to go bad V70-XC70 2001

The driveshaft is composed of 3 parts, connected by U joints or constant velocity joints. A lot of torque straining on these joints causes premature wear. Usually, the first joint will wear and the play will cause the others to slowly follow suit. There is also a center bearing which can and does get loose with age.
Replacing the forward CV joint is fairly easy, but not cheap, at around $350 for the part. The two rearward sections must be replaced as a unit for a heafty price. Check around for the center bearing replacement cost.

There are homemade solutions, particularly from a character in Scotland, who injected more grease into the fittings under the boot and he also added a sleave to the center bearing support. Of course, he has a 4 post lift in his garage :) Not something you could do with jack stands on the garage floor.
