Error Code from 6-Disc Changer 850 1996

Group:
I have a 6-disc CD changer from a '96 850 mounted in the trunk of my S90.
It worked fine for several years.
After some tine of non-use it stopped working and displays a code of E-01 on the radio screen.
What does this mean? There are no codes. Wiring is good.
Cartrige ejector worked OK, so there was power to the unit.

That was last month. Today a cartrige is stuck in there and will not eject. Still has power. I plan to remove the unit and retrive the cartrige, but what does E-01 mean and how do I fix it.

I borrowed a known working changer unit and moved the two connectors to it.
Borrowed unit plays fine, so it is not the radio.

TIA
