Tire Pressure Sensors V70-XC70 2007

Hello All,

The 1997 850 GLT has been replaced by a new 2007 V70 2.5T. Although I found the 97 to be a remarkably fun car to own/drive for 10 years it was time to move on. Anyway, on to the issue at hand.

I put a new set of winter wheels/tires from Tire Rack on the V70. Everything was A-OK until round the clock sub zero temperatures arrived in Minnesota. Then I developed slow leaks in all four tires. The fasted leaking tire I had to have checked while on the road and the indie could not find a leak. The whole issue is strange since my new tires were mounted on new steel rims. I called Tire Rack to complain and find a solution. First thing they said is that they will send out four new tire pressure sensors and remburse me for the installation.

Great, then I called my indie to arrange the replace/remount/rebalance appointment and he recomended ditching the monitors and using standard stems. He said they have seen problems with cheap OEM TPSs.

So here's my question, which my friends at Volvo have not answered yet. If I remove the TPSs from the wheels, but secure two of them in my rear storage bin and two under to hood, will the tire pressure warning light on my dash think that everything is OK? I understand how the TPSs work when they are on tires, but what if they are not under any pressure. It seems to me that the signals would be uniform and therefore my car would think all four tires are great.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Chuck
