Transmission Failure 99 s70 S70 1999

I have a 99 s70 non-Turbo, 136,000 miles. Only owned it for 6 months. Wanted it becuase our 1990 760 have been great (270,000).

The tranmission started knunking when stopping and acting a little funny when shifting. The fluid was dark but did not stink. I flushed it. Seemed better then a day or two later... it is acting terrible and throwing check engine codes. It will only start in 2nd gear.

If this thing trashed?
Do I rebuild or go for one from someone like erie volvo?
How can the old 90 760 go almost 300,000 mi. and this one only lasts 130??
Any thougths are appreciated.
Hawkeye
