New to me and clunking 850 1995

I am a newbie and I recently bought a 95' 850 GLT while I was visiting family in FL. I have always loved the look and safety factor associated with this car. I am going to be flying back to FL to pick the car up and drive it home to Indy but before I do that I need some advice from my fellow volvo lovers the car makes a metal on metal banging sound coming from the right front tire area when potholes or driveway curbs are gone over. This does not occur when holes are hit with the other wheel or when the wheel is sharply turned and driven in circles. Could this be the spring seats, and is it safe to drive the highway home and then have it fixed? Would appreciate advice I don't want to kill it before I can get it home. I checked into transport and it is way too expensive for me.
thanks
