ECC problems 850 1993

Unfortunately they are completely different animals.

Usually the switches on the ECC units don't smoke - the unit itself smokes and the smoke just comes out of the opening where the switches are. Our cars are all now getting to the end of the life expectancy of electrolytic capacitors of which there are many in the relays and in the climate control unit.

Does the fan continue to blow even after you turn off the key? If so, you have a shorted out power stage. If not, the ECC itself is to blame. The good news is that there are many of the ECC units on eBay and they usually go for under US $100.00.

If your fan does blow after you turn the car off remove fuse number 5 or it will drain your battery.
