radio code (model 813 c/w remote cd) S70 1998

A mechanic disconnected my battery to work on something else under the hood. When I got the car back his shop was closed, the clock needed to be reset, and the radio displays ( OFF E ). He won't tell me what if anything was done to the radio,( I suspect he attempted to enter a code). I've followed the owner's manual instructions to have the radio on for several hours with the key in position 1, without any luck. Nothing I've tried brings up ( CODE ), it still displays ( OFF E ). Is my only option another radio?
