Locks on my 97 going bonkers-lights keep flashing. What's wrong? 850

Wne I get into my 1998 with the keyfob in the right hand, I manage to compress the remote and push the lock button. The lights flash for a long time like the hazzard button being pushed, probably because the door is still open, and continue to flash after the door is closed.
I don't think water from a carwash will penetrate the door enough to get ice inside the actual locking mechanism. If it did, my car would be parked from December to March! The lock cylinder is frozen and will stay that way until spring.
