I found the cause for several electrical problems that could help others 850 1996

Hello All,

Recently, my 19996 850 GLT Wagon with a 5 speed, with 260,000 miles exhibited the following electrical problems all at once:

1) Both side view mirrors would intermittently stop working for no reason.

2) The defrost feature on neither side view mirror worked. This was all the time.

3) When I turned on the front driver and passenger seat warmers, they would work and the orange colored light in each switch would come on. However, at night, when I put the the driving lights on, the bulbs in these two switches that are supposed to turn on and illuminate them did not work.

4) At the rear of the center console there is a foot light that is designed to illuminated the rear passenger area. This light is directly below the ash tray. At night when I put the headlights on, this light would not work.

Note, I switched out all the various light bulbs referenced above, but that was not effective. The cause for all these electrical problems was a loose grounding wire that was located underneath the center console. This was told to me by my independent mechanic. I was very pleased because I was afraid I would have had to replace the central control panel which is an expensive part. I hope this information helps others. I again thank all those who replied when I was trying to figure out what was causing all these electrical problems at once.

Hugh
