stuck moonroof 850 1996

Looking for some help with a moonroof issue on my 850 GLT wagon.

The moonroof is partially open and I cannot get it to go back into place. The when the moon roof is in place on the car the passenger side can tilt up but the driver side is at the level of the roof. Then when you return it to the closed position the driver side is down about 1/2" below the roofline. In the front the driver side is open about 1/2" as well.

I removed the glass and discovered that passenger side frame is 1" to 2" ahead in the rail than the driver side frame. With the glass removed everything works the way that it should except for the fact that the driver side does not go far enough ahead to tilt up as it should and then it goes further back into the roof than the passenger side.

The other day when it was very cold the button got pushed accidentally and there was a grinding noise but nothing happened.

Is there a way in which the drive cable can be manipulated so that I can get the frames even in the tracks?
