Hard to start every morning and the radiator fan comes on ! 850 1995

Hello,

Glad this board still going strong, helped me lots in the past.

My 1995 850 2.5 20v manual Est 180,000 miles has got a problem starting in the mornings. After the first attempt, the rad fan comes on and stays on at full speed. Eventually it starts after 10 or so trys. Rad fan stays on all the time even if the key is taken out. Once started and going. fan stays on for about another 4 minutes before it switches to slow speed then goes off. The car behaves perfectly for the rest of the day. Its been weeks like this now.

I'm thinking the ECU is getting a false signal that the engine is hot when its obviously not. Thats why theres no mixture enrichment from the ECU (choke) to help me start. And thats why the fan comes on. But it all works fine when warmed up .. how? Temp sensor gone stupid? But the dash gauge works fine and its not showing overheated when I first put the key in.

Anyone any suggestions where to look?
Thanks

Pete.
