Oil trap plumbing 850 1997

I recently received my oil trap and associated plumbing from Groton. One of the pieces was an aluminum sleeve that I presume connects the the bottom port on the engine with the bottom pipe of the oil trap. On the old trap, this connection was a simple piece of rubber tubing and a couple clamps. My questions are:

1. Do I use the new aluminum sleeve or reuse the old rubber connector and clamps?

2. If I use the aluminum sleeve, which end goes against the engine block? (one end of the sleeve has a black plastic ring)
