Drive axle play V70-XC70 2002

While changing oil, I noticed that there is quite a bit of rotational free play in the driveline. You can move the front wheel-either one- about 30 degrees with the car in park. It's also noticeable while driving when coming off the throttle or back on. Under the Differential there is a noticeable clunk when you turn either wheel. I would suspect the spider gears, but has this been a problem anyone else has seen? Oh, and it appears to be getting worse-mileage is 146,000. The right front axle is new and neither cv joint makes noise or has any noticeable play.
