Couple of randon ideas.

Is the ground from the harness good?

I have the same manual. It covers 96-99 UK models. Our wiring is probably different. Try posting this on S40concepts.net. Some of those guys have access to the VADIS software and maybe they could get you a wiring diagram for your MY.
