Headlight bulb hassle 850 1996

I've had a continuing problem with a headlight bulb -- I just can't get the knack of getting a new one in there. It can't be this hard. I'm wondering if my socket is bunged up.

The last time I needed a PS bulb, I tried for hours, even used a mirror. I had to take in the car for something else and the shop did it, but apparently not well. Now, the same side is out. When I went to look at it, the bulb had fallen out of its socket and was loose. Makes me think the tangs on the socket are bent or something.

Any one run across this? Advice?
