Climate control is not adjustable - any ideas? 2001 V70 with ACC V70-XC70 2001

Climate control (ACC) in my 2001 V70 just developed a problem.

It I turn the temperature knob almost all the way clockwise, it blows cold (unheated) air. At the very last click, when the knob turned all the way (hottest), it starts blowing very hot air. There is nothing in between. It did work fine before, no symptoms.

The the problem appeared on the driver side only, passenger side was OK, and in another day both sides do not adjust.

One thing - when I start the car, I hear some servo sounds, like motors moving parts in the heating system. I do not recall hearing this before, this is something new.

AC works ok.

I am quite lost with the is problem, and hate to go to a dealer.

Any ideas? Is this in the control panel or inside the heating system?
