ENGINE SKIP - S70 1999

I've had a "occassional" skip for a number of months and had several visits to a dealer and an independent Volvo shop trying to get it fixed. I've also tried gas treatment and a new gas filter. Skip still there but only occassionally but getting more frequent. Feels like a "misfire". Start skipping again Monday and it is in shop now. I trust these folks but they are telling me there is a small exhaust leak very close to the 02 sensor and that may be the problem. They won't know for sure until the leak is repaired. No codes!!

Does this make sense? Would a leak near the 02 sensor cause a skip?
