reliability of 2001 V70 V70-XC70

Miles, all newer cars from any maker are going to have electronic problems that you will not be used to (99 and later Volvos have electronic throttles that had problems the first couple of years - the warranty was extended) and be harder to work on than you're used to. ABS control modules fail but can be repaired rather replaced (search for Victor Rocha). You will also have the rear wheel to front wheel drive adjustment to make.

Searches on this board will find numerous recommnedations to avoid the all wheel drive models until about 03, I think it is. Lots of posts also say to stay away from the S80 until about 02 or later, especially the twin turbo.

When I finally sold my 92 940, I replaced it with a 96 850 Turbo and currently have a 98 S70 and 00 V70. I thought I loved my 940, but I really love the FWD 5cyl volvos. The 01 uses the same layout just a different skin more or less.

Consumer reports recently included the S60 on their "best bets" list. See:

http://autos.yahoo.com/consumerreports/article/best_and_worst_used_cars.html

The V70, of course is essentially the same thing with a wagon body. Having had turbo and no turbo models, I recommend the turbo (assuming you equate more horses with more enjoyable drivieng).

Personally, I think you'd be very happy with an 01 V70, especially if you could verify it's care from seeing service records.

Good luck!
