I just checked the local pump today and it was $4.68 for a US gallon of diesel. Premium petrol is $4.09, regular is $3.89. Cheap by your standards, but very little road tax is added here.
The annual taxes vary from state to state, and in Minnesota is pegged to the value of the car. The amount of tax decreases over 10 years, and the least is only $40. I suspect my first 2 years will be around $800/year and $600 the next 2 years.
