V70 window switch assembly V70-XC70 1998

Hello, The window master switch in my 1999 went bad this January at 112K, exactly 9 years after the in service date. Prying it open is straightforward. I cleaned the fuzz out of it. The metal inside (brass?) didn't look tarnished; though I blackened many Q-tips using brass cleaner on them. Each time I reinstalled the switch a different window would fail to operate. After 10 attempts I bought a new master switch-Volvo p/n 8638452. All fixed. A)If they can be resucitated, I'd love to know how it's done. B)Does the Saab switch location in the center console protect it from water? Window and door openings during rain and snow must take a toll. C)Unless it's dirt cheap, don't buy an old switch. You already own one. D)I think the salt and oil in our sweat accumulates and partially dissolves the rubbery surface of the switches. Bring back the cranks-only kidding. Kira
