AC cutting out on '99 V70 V70-XC70 1999

Gary, The symptoms you describe are caused by the compressor clutch wearing and the gap becoming too wide. Everything operates fine in cool weather and in the heat until the compressor disengages the first time, which happens in stop and go situations. Mine used to fail every the ambient temperature rose above 85 degrees. You can use the bread wrapper fix or you can remove the clutch plate and remove shims to reduce the gap to .015". The later being the most difficult by far but the best in my opinion. I have done two in the past and have a write up on it if you are interested in tackling it.
