intermittent turn signal failure V70-XC70 1999

1999 V70, just got it two days ago.

Sometimes the turn signals don't work.

The emergency flasher can be turned on and it works fine even when turn signals are not working. Do thes euse the same blinker realy? It seems like they do, they make the same click from the same general location. It seems the problem is not likely the blinker relay.

We turned the car off and started it again, and the turn blinkers began working.

An obvious culprit would be the turn signal switch, but it does not seem that re-starting the car would clear a bad switch problem.

Any ideas?
