S80 rough idle S80

Any thoughts welcome. 2000 s80 2.9 (130K miles)

A few days ago in the morning, the car started and ran very rough for about 2-3 minutes then ran fine until the commute home (same thing). After about the 2nd morning of this the check engine light came on. (no messages on the interior message board). I haven't checked any codes yet but any thoughts to what might be the problem. NOTE: over the last year the check engine light came on twice and after removing and installing the gas cap it went away. I tried this a few times but the engine light is still there. The light came on when the car was running rough yesterday so I think the rough idle caused it.
