Emergency brake adjustment V70-XC70 2000

The Ebrakes on an AWD are most difficult to adjust properly. The car must be in neutral and both rear wheels need to be off the ground, preferrably all 4 wheels. Do not rotate the wheels backwards to the direction of travel, that will lock them up.

If you have no Ebrake with the handle completely up, then the cable may be broken. The adjustment nut uses a T40 and should have been enough to tighten the cable.

The proper way is to loosen the adjustment nut and then remove the rear wheels. Through the holes left by the lug nuts, you will find a star wheel to adjust the brake shoes. I use a very small flashlight to find it. Turn it from left to right to tighten it until the rotor has difficulty turning, then back off a notch or 2. Do this for both wheels. Then go back inside the console and tighten the adjustment nut so that it is tight abter 4 or 5 clicks.

Put the wheels back on and try it out.

If you need to replace a broken cable... The rear seat and rear carpet must come out and the rear rotors must come off.
