intermitant A/C S80

At various times the ac compressor shuts down. usually on a 90 degree day. Different occurances, sometimes on the highway at,, 70 sometimes in traffic. had it checked out at a dealer they could not find anything. They suggested getting it to them when it went off to check control circuits. It's not a freeze up seems to be control or wiring.
if i shut off the push button for about a minute or so it will come back on. sometimes it will then shut off several times on the way home. we were about a mile from volvo for several hours but it didn't shut off til we were 20 miles away, half way home. dealer is 40 miles away. local a/c shops won't touch the volvo. The compressor does not feel overly hot and the clutch is definitely disengaged when the symtoms occur. I've thought of rigging a hot wire to the clutchbut am not sure of the circuitry.
Any ideas out there?
