S 80 window regulator rebuild S80

The cable window regulators have a 25 cent plastic pulley that will pop and cost around $500 to replace. I rebuilt one using a $5 ball bearing nylon pulley from macmaster karr and about a day of head scratching. drilled out the old pulley spindle, bolted in the new pulley. The hard part was rewinding the cable and getting it under tension. Still it was better that $500.
Has anyone fought the same battle that has any tricks on the cable winding?
