Need Help Volvo went up in Smoke and Left me Stranded (Cooked Cooling Fan)

Hi all,
I was left stranded on the roadside by my volvo for the second week in a row. Last weeek mass air flow sensor failed this week noticed my temp rising and smelled burning wires looked under the hood and the motor for the radiator cooling fan was smoking. L was able to get it into a parking lot before the cooling started to boil out the expansion tank cap. I was able to get a new motor delivered to the hotel by friday. Any idea how complex a repair it will be can it be done in a parking lot. I have changed the timing belt my self and few other repairs just wondering how hard and what tools I will need. Will it be ok to drive at highway speed w/o the fan I pulled the relay wire, I would love to get the car home and work on it
Thanks
