ABS Idiot lamp lit (That can't be a good thing) 850 1995

O.K., folks just headed home from work and for whatever reason the orange colored ABS idiot light came on. Checked the manual when I got home and it states, "IF THE WARNING LAMP LIGHTS UP THERE IS A MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE DRIVEN TO A VOLVO DEALER FOR INSPECTION."

I guess my first question is can I still drive the car indefinitely with the standard braking system? I have vacation coming up next week.
Second question would be can I diagnose this problem myself?

I have had the car since 2001 and it now has 171,000 miles on it. This is the first time this light has come on.
