BMW cooling systems S60

My wife's car before she got an S60 was a BMW 3 series. The water pump was an issue, every 45K it required changing. Thought everything was OK, until the plastic coolant outlet on the back side of the engine cracked while she was driving it. Warped the head, luckily they were able to weld up the aluminum head and resurface. Total bill $1,500 for a failure to an $8.00 hose part. Problem was that we didn't even know there was a plastic part deeply hidden on the backside of the engine. With a BMW if the temp rise just a little , there is a good chance you have aleardy warped the head. I wouldn't own a BMW if it is outside the warranty period - they are as my Volvo mechanic says "soft" cars. Lots of little things go wrong all the time, and then there is the big one that will happen at the worst time. A modern BMW is a car IMHO that is NOT much good over 125K.
