We are a bit off-topic here, but this one, my 1981 daily commuter, which I bought new in Houston, has been been exceptional. In 27 years, only 2 radiators, 2 alternators, and 2 AC compressors. Starter is original, no engine work ever, and my mechanic told me the rear boots are finally brittle and failing, so it will need major replacement of rubber in the rear end. I'm convinced that changing fluids every year helped. But recently, all car manufacturers have tried to tell their prospective purchasers that they need minimal maintenance. Part of the fault lies with magazines like Consumer Reports, who list ownership costs for the first 1 or 2 or 5 years. If you don't do any maintenance, of course your initial costs are low - then the thing falls apart massively. Look at our nation's roads, bridges, and levees. Even Volvo fell into the lifetime fluids nonsense, but sadly many modern Volvo drivers don't know any better (and are gullible enough to believe it).
